High-Efficiency Particulate Air vacuums, known as HEPA
vacuums, are much different than conventional vacuums. They contain certified
HEPA filters that are capable of capturing the finest micron-sized most
dangerous-to-breath dust particles. The HEPA vacuum helps the dangerous
particles from being released back into the air.
HEPA vacuums help provide perfectly breathable air from dust
and particles that are hazardous. When using a HEPA vacuum, they will be
efficient for fast recovery of bulk dry dust, debris and other building
material found at construction, abatement, and restoration sites.
Since HEPA vacuums can trap the tiniest airborne particles,
the United States Department of Labor require the vacuums for final cleanup of
at and around remediation areas. The filter of the HEPA vacuum must be properly
seated and changed so all the air can be passed through the filter and ensure
it will collect the dangerous micron particles at the remediation areas.
Remember when changing the filters, they could be containing
harmful particulate matter and must wear protective clothing, respirators,
gloves and eye protection to prevent exposure to any captured mold, debris or
other contaminated particles. And when disposing of the HEPA filter and the
contents collected, should be placed in impermeable bags or containers.
Impermeable bags and containers help prevent the release of the mold, debris or
dangerous particles during clean up.
HEPA vacuums used of all particles that are leaving the
remediation sites before removed. This cleanup process will ensure that the
dangerous micron-sized particles will not leave the site and are cleaned
properly before transporting.
Effective August 2, 2016, The Department of Labor has
adjusted the penalties for HEPA Vacuum violations for the Occupational Safety
and Health Administration, also known as OSHA.
OSHA is responsible for the protection of workers’ safety and health while
on site. For serious violations, OSHA regulations can cause a hefty fine from
the Department of Labor. The maximum penalty used to be $7,000 per violation.
Now, the penalty is $12,471. That is over double the fines.
Check out the HEPA vacuums that Healthy Air Technologies
carry to help your company not violate OSHA regulations. Our HEPA vacuums can
also be connected to an electrical power tool to extract the dust particles
from concrete grinded down. Our vacuums can handle building, grinding, plaster
and concrete dust.
