Have you ever visited a warehouse and observed a shiny gray floor, when you observe closely the surface looks like concrete.
When you enquire around you are told that it is concrete but what they call
the finish is Polished Concrete.
What is polished concrete? It is a concrete surface that has been ground
by a professional machine and has been treated with chemicals to harden it.
Once through the floor looks smooth shiny and sophisticated.
If you have decided that you are going to polish your floors, a polisher
equipment is vital. The first is the
grinder, the diamond abrasives, and the hardener.
In the process of floor polishing, a hardener is usually used after the floor
has been checked.
a)
Sweep the floor and evaluate the hardness of the
concrete by using Mohs concrete.
b)
Check for any cracks and repair
c)
Start the initial grinding process
d)
After the initial grinding, apply the liquid hardener
on the concrete. It hardens the surface and protects against water penetration
and staining.
What is a Floor hardener?
Floor hardeners are liquid or metals that applied to concrete to prevent
any water from seeping through hence make the concrete
surface stronger, less permeable towatery
substances and more durable.
There are liquid hardeners such as Xtreme hard concrete densifier,
Xtreme Hard solid densifier. There are also sealers and concrete admixtures.
There are also, heavy duty metallic floor
hardeners, non-metallic floor hardeners, metallic
floor hardeners and carborundum based non-metallic floor hardeners.
The hardeners can be used on
interior or exterior surfaces. Every type of hardener has got its own features and characteristics. Liquid
hardeners have the following features;
• They
decrease porosity while increasing the hardness.
• Offer
higher abrasion resistance.
• Less
formation of tire marks.
• They
are easy to clean.
• Nondusting surface.
• Surface
appearance improved.
Another name of a hardener is densifier when properly used alongside the
grinding machine it gives a home a glossy look. A densifier provides a much
harder and shinier surface that has a lot of resistance to most stains, oils,
grease and water damage. If the surface where it
has been applied has a lot of wear &tear, it can deteriorate over
time and may require re-application.
Hardening and polishing work starts with an efficient grinder. The grinder needs to be fitted with diamond
abrasives to remove the surface layer. The choice of the grinder will depend on the surface area that you are using. Xtreme
polishing has a variety of concrete grinders for your job.
Then, theflooris treated with a hardener. The hardener fills
in the pores as it is absolved into the
concrete. Concrete Densifier helps increase the density of the surface to prevent
micro chunks which can be removed when
polishing the surface.
Hardeners are an important component in the floor
polishing process when used properlycan greatly enhance the fit and finish
of a concrete floor.
