The payoff for decorative flooring for business, commercial and
residential is worth the extra time because decorative flooring looks beautiful
for years to come and is dependable. When it comes to installing decorative
flooring the most important part to completing the project is to use a
sealer. If a sealer is not applied to
the natural material of the flooring than the floor installation is not
complete. The sealer is considered the final layer in providing protection,
enhancement and preservation of the appearance of the finished flooring.
With many different sealers on the market, it is important to
know which sealer to use to complete the flooring project. What is the
difference between acrylic sealers and impregnating sealers?
Acrylic sealers are the best choice for concrete flooring when
looking for an easy application for both interior and exterior surfaces. After
applying acrylic sealer to the floor it will form a thin protective film that
will protect the natural concrete material. Acrylic sealers also provide
excellent protection against water and any moisture trying to intrude into the
floor. The sealers are also resistant to ultra violet lighting for outdoors and
indoor flooring that receive a lot of sunshine.
For stone flooring, impregnating sealers are best to use to
protect the flooring. Impregnating sealers for stone flooring are different
than sealers for concrete because acrylic sealers are a top coating used to
protect the concrete surface. But impregnating sealers for stone flooring is
not a topical coating but it is a protection from beneath the surface.
Impregnating sealers work itself inside the stone flooring and
once the solvent evaporates the resin stays in the pores of the flooring. Once
resin stays in the pores, it will partially clog the pores to help reduce the
natural absorbency rate of stone. This will help protect the stone flooring
from staining agents spilt on the floor. Impregnating sealers help keep the
staining agents on the surface on the floor for a longer period of time and not
allow the stone to get stained.
Concrete and stone flooring in their natural state are easily
exposed to the elements and are susceptible to accelerated aging. Both flooring
options need to be protected with a sealer, either acrylic or impregnating.
Sealers will make the life expectancy of the concrete and stone floor last
longer while it protects the floor from the exposure to damage.
